We received many messages after our latest post asking: What is a gammon joint?
A gammon joint is a cut of pork that comes from the hind leg of the pig. It is cured and often sold as a large, whole piece. It’s similar to ham but differs in the curing and preparation process—gammon is usually sold raw and needs to be cooked, while ham is often pre-cooked or ready to eat.
When it comes to preparation, a gammon joint can be cooked in several ways, including roasting, boiling, or, as in your case, using an air fryer for a crispy and flavorful result.
Gammon Joint vs. Ham
Gammon: Raw, cured pork leg that requires cooking. It is commonly roasted or boiled.
Ham: Typically cooked or ready to eat. It is the end product of gammon once it has been cooked and sometimes smoked.
Once cooked, a gammon joint can be served in slices or used in different dishes, such as sandwiches and salads, or paired with sides like roast potatoes and vegetables.
It’s a great cut of meat to experiment with in a variety of recipes, especially with glazes and air-fryer methods.
